A viral X post claims a solo builder made $1,549 in 5 days by spotting a trending AI video format early, shipping a paid tool site for it and letting search and ChatGPT recommendations bring buyers. We rebuilt that exact playbook with a Chinese model — MiniMax Hailuo 2.3 Pro — around the "Bulin 47" freestyle rap trend. The build side took one day and under $25 in cash. The revenue side is, so far, $0 — and that gap is the real finding of this test.

The claim under test被测的说法
- Original claim (X post by @0xEcho99, in Chinese): a new-trend AI video tool site earned $1,549 in 5 days, 61 paying customers, 84 orders, ~8% conversion, with video generation costs around 29% of revenue. The author also notes day 5 revenue fell to $39.97 as the trend cooled, and does not name the keyword that made the money.[1]
- What is testable: the build speed, the real per-clip cost of a Chinese video model via API, whether an individual can actually get paid (checkout, restrictions), and the unit economics. What is not testable from one run: the revenue, which depends on trend timing and distribution.
What we built我们搭了什么
- Site: gobulin47.com — upload one photo, get a ~6-second vertical "Bulin 47" freestyle clip, pay per pack. Live since 2026-10-16.
- Stack: Cloudflare Pages (hosting + a single-file worker), fal.ai API for generation, MiniMax Hailuo 2.3 Pro as the model, PayPal for checkout (an individual-friendly option where Stripe onboarding is not available).
- Pricing we shipped: Starter $9.99 for 3 clips, Standard $19.99 for 4, Pro $49.99 for 10 — deliberately top-heavy, copied from the original playbook.

- For comparison, the original post reports ~29% video cost using ByteDance Seedance. Our Hailuo cost share is lower (10–15%) — but at zero sales, cost share is not the constraint. Distribution is.
What broke along the way路上踩的坑
- Seedance refused the job. Our first model choice, ByteDance Seedance via fal.ai, rejected the input with "the images or videos provided may contain likenesses of real people" (our fal request log, 2026-10-16). Any workflow built on real people's photos cannot use it. We switched to Hailuo the same day; if you are evaluating Chinese video models for face-based products, test this first — it is not in the marketing pages.
- PayPal restricted the first live order (error PAYEE_ACCOUNT_RESTRICTED) until the merchant account setup was completed. After that, a live order could be created.
- You cannot pay yourself. The owner's own cards were declined at guest checkout. End-to-end testing needed PayPal sandbox — and the default sandbox buyer is tied to the merchant account, so we had to create a separate sandbox buyer before a test payment would go through.
- The clip is silent on purpose. The trend's sound has to be attached inside TikTok to reach the sound page; the FAQ on the site says so, and early visitors still asked where the audio was. Expect support questions like this.
Verdict结论
Partly works. The supply side of the claim is fully real: with Chinese AI models priced like Hailuo, one person can ship a working, paid AI video tool in a day for under $25, with healthy 85–90% gross margin on paper. The demand side — "$1,549 in 5 days" — is a distribution and timing outcome, not a build outcome. The original author caught a trend at its start and watched it fade by day 5; we launched late in the same trend's life, with no audience, and have the $0 to show for it. We are keeping the site live and the budget capped; the next field test starts at trend detection, not at the build.
